PERSONALITY
The three pillars of being a Commander are wisdom, compassion, and strength. Lexa has no small measure of these qualities, and has been praised as being one of the wisest Commanders her Fleimkepa has overseen. She rules with reason, not emotion, and presents herself as calm, if not stoic at times. She puts her duty to her people before any personal desires. She allowed Azgeda into her coalition despite the queen having killed her lover, and broke off an alliance with Clarke Griffin when a less risky option to secure her people was offered.
The decisions that she has to make can therefore make her seem cold, and uncaring. She is even willing to sacrifice her own if it will lead to a better outcome for all. Yet, she won't sacrifice anyone for her own gain or safety. No one fights in place of the Commander. She faces personal threat with grace and strength. She expects her subjects to yield to her authority and will fight, even kill people who disrespect that authority. The displays of violence are a result of ruling in a culture that views fighting as strength.
Therefore, there is a bias Lexa has toward seeing emotions, and mercy, as weakness. She questions herself, and expresses private uncertainty, when she goes against the traditions of her people. Her visionary quality allows her to not be bound by tradition, and to consider alternatives with foresight, but even she is not above their influence. It is the sort of influence that allows her to banish even the closest of her people, like Anya, when she sees that they have faltered in their duties. Lexa's greatest weakness is her inability to maintain interpersonal bonds. As Commander, she is alone, and her love for others has led to difficult if heartbreaking conclusions.
SKILLS
Combat
Natblidas are trained at Polis from a young age to be outstanding fighters. Along with all the training of a warrior, they specialize in solo gunplei or one on one combat. Lexa has excellent footwork, and is highly capable of dodging blows and getting back to her feet if she is knocked down.
Weapons
The use of weapons is an imperative skill for a warrior. Lexa is particularly proficient with short to mid-range weapons such as knives, swords, staffs and spears. While if it were necessary, she would be capable of using a bow and arrow she does not favour long range weapons. She has no experience with guns.
Horseback Riding
Lexa is comfortable riding on horseback be it a leisurely pace or full gallop across the plains. She is even capable of using a weapon and fighting her enemies atop a horse. She is no animal whisperer, however, and isn't responsible for the horses she uses. She relies on a trainer to tame horses for her, and stable-hands to maintain them.
Politics
As Commander Lexa learned the nuances of grounder politics; from the customs, borders, disputes and the rights of her people. She has a mind for political strategy and has joined twelve clans together into one coalition—something no other Commander had managed until her rule.
Strategy
Lexa commands a large army with the coalition. Before uniting the twelve clans, she went to war with Azgeda—a far larger, more powerful nation than Trigedakru with an army to match—and won. Lexa understands warfare and is capable of coming up with winning strategies with the help of her advisers and generals.
HISTORY
Lexa was born into the Trigedakru Clan as a Natblida. The rare blood type identified her as a potential candidate to be the next Heda. The baby was sent to be raised at Polis. She, and nine other Natblidas, trained to be the next Commanders. They learned the art of combat, and spent many hours training. They were overseen by Fleimkepa Titus, and were lectured by the Heda before her. Despite knowing that only one of them could survive, she did grow fond of her peers, in particular a girl named Luna.
When they were old enough and their training at Polis perfected, the Natblidas were allowed to return to their villages to serve as warriors. It was then that a young Lexa served as second to unit leader Anya. The arrangement lasted a few years until she was called back to Polis. The Commander was dead, and it was time to begin the conclave.
In order to become the next Heda, Lexa had to kill the other Natblidas. The only other Natblida who escaped death was Luna who fled into hiding. The flame, a chip, was inserted into the back of her neck and with the naming of all past Commanders she became the most powerful person within their political system. She managed relations between the twelve clans through the twelve ambassadors. During her reign she fell in love with Costia.
The queen of Azgeda rebelled against the Commander and kidnapped Costia, only to behead and send her to Lexa's bed. Lexa declared war on Azgeda and with her allies she won. She allowed Azgeda and their allies into her coalition to unify her people and bring peace.
The Mountain remained their biggest threat, but an opportunity to take them out wouldn't present itself until a dropship fell from space and landed in Trigedakru territory. Lexa learned of the development from Polis and gave Cheif Indra leave to handle the situation as she saw fit. It was when 300 of her people were burned to the crisp did she realize that the people from the sky were not like anything they had dealt with before, and more were to come. She personally went to see and manage the situation herself.
Two prisoners were taken and Lexa sent one to deliver a message from her personally: to leave or die. She had brought with her the entire army of the twelve clans. The sky people were to deliver the one responsible for the massacre of the villagers. Clarke Griffin came to her tent to negotiate, but she would not deny her people justice.
When it was done, they negotiated an alliance in Tondc and a strategy for taking down the Mountain. During that time Lexa grew attracted to Clarke, and admired her leadership ability. Despite this, when it came time to follow through with their war plan Lexa's people were freed, and a deal was struck to spare the grounders without the need to risk lives. She turned her back on Clarke and her people.
Lexa returned to Polis and resumed her seat of power. News travelled that the Mountain had been defeated and that the person responsible was Clarke. Wanheda, as they started to call her, could do what Heda could not. She also learned that a bounty has been placed on Clarke, and that those disloyal to her seek to claim Wanheda's power.
