PERSONALITY
Bellamy grew up in a world where his baby sister's mere existence was a crime. He is loyal and over-protective to a fault. He lives to keep his sister, and now the 100, safe. He considers his own life to be less important, making tough decisions as well as morally ambiguous (and apprehensible ones), so they won't have to. He projects a strong and confident front because he knows that's what the 100 need to feel safe, and to have hope, though he is constantly tormented by self-doubt.
He is highly impulsive and emotional, at times making decisions based on fear rather than reason. He has come to realize that Clarke's leadership does not in fact threaten his own; it balances it, and it makes him better.
Despite being a valued leader, he feels very much alone. He thinks that he's expected to project a certain image of strength, free from any sort of emotional vulnerability. Instead of opening up, he hides those vulnerabilities somewhere deep inside. Sometimes, if he eats hallucinogenic nuts, they surface.
SKILLS
TRAINED GUARDSMAN
Bellamy is skilled at fighting, and is especially well-trained when it comes to firearms. He is fearless on the battlefield; he values the lives of those he's protecting above his own.
DECISIVE
Though his skills as a leader might be subject for debate, people do trust and follow him. He has the courage to make decisions and choose a course of action. It isn't always the right course, but sometimes having some direction is far better than having none at all.
IMPROVISATION
When things go wrong (and they often do), he doesn't panic or shut down, he finds another way: whether it's sneaking onto the Drop ship, or infiltrating Mt. Weather, he sees opportunity wherever it knocks, and he doesn't hesitate to open the door.
EMOTIONAL DETACHMENT
It keeps him cool under pressure. He is willing and able to sacrifice his own sense of morality to protect the people he cares about.
LOYALTY
Though not a skill in the strictest sense, it may be his prevailing trait. Trust that Bellamy will move Heaven and Earth to defend the people he cares about, no matter the cost.
HISTORY
Bellamy Blake was born on the Ark, like many others. As a child he enjoyed stories of Earth and her history. Those were the stories his mother most enjoyed sharing with him, perhaps because stories of the present were too terrible to tell.
His childhood was unique in the fact that he was the only kid on the Ark to have a sibling. She lived in the floor and he couldn't tell anyone, so much of his young life had been about hiding the truth, and keeping everyone at a distance. He stole books, and toys, and brought his lunch home in his pockets just to make sure Octavia would have half of what the other kids had.
Bellamy was a very serious kid, or they wouldn't have kept their family secret for as long as they did. Despite feeling that she'd robbed her son of his childhood, Bellamy's mother had always been very proud of him, and of the responsibility he took towards his sister.
When Octavia was sentenced to the Drop ship, there was never any question that Bellamy would find a way aboard. With his mother gone, floated for no crime other than his sister's existence, Bellamy was her sole guardian. Besides, there was nothing left for him on the Ark.
As the eldest on the Drop ship, Bellamy found himself in a natural leadership position. He might have been the only big brother on the Ark, and that was the closest thing that any of them had to a father, or a leader. Someone needed to lead, and doing it himself was his best assurance that he could keep Octavia safe.
At first he rejected Clarke's leadership, seeing it as a threat, a thing he couldn't control, but eventually he came to realize that it complimented his own. Bellamy had the charisma to rally the troops, but Clarke was the real leader.
The carnage in Mt. Weather left an empty hole in his heart that he couldn't fill, or forgive. He was angry at Clarke for leaving, as if her suffering was somehow superior to his own. His hand had pulled the lever too, he'd made them burn. He still saw Lovejoy's son in his nightmares. But even as it tore him apart, his mission hasn't changed, and he couldn't run away.
